South Wales Miners Museum

South Wales Miners Museum

The 1970’s saw the end of mining in the Afan Valley, facing the prospect of unemployment, local people stood together and formed the South Wales Miners Museum. Their goal was simple, to show the world what life was really like for the Welsh miner.

Today, the recently renovated museum features a Lamproom, Engine House and Sheave Wheel. The most emotive section of our museum is an exhibition showing the work children carried out underground. Leaving a big impression on visitors it provides an accurate reflection of the dangers faced, by those in the mines.
